For all the buzz that accompanied
Adam Lambert's debut record -- promising that he was the one American Idol kid with real rock 'n'roll in his veins -- For Your Entertainment was an unspectacular showing. Too calculated and driven by the top hitmakers money could buy, it felt like yet another product from the American Idol franchise, rather than a real statement from Lambert the artist. His new EP, Acoustic Live! compensates for that to a large degree, peeling away the studio gloss that weighed down Lambert's glittery wings on the first album. On live acoustic versions of select For Your Entertainment tunes, Lambert's passionate, powerhouse tenor soars, bringing these songs to life. A spirited take on Tears for Fears' Mad World is an EP standout, too. Acoustic Live! is a big step in the right direction for Lambert, hinting that he may just live to the hype yet.
