Adam Lambert’s ‘Maypril’ Morphs Into May - Gather Renee Snyder

Adam Lambert recently invented the month of "Maypril" when his upcoming album was delayed from an initial release date of March 20 to somewhere between April and May. Fans around the world were disappointed, but understanding, since they know he is doing everything possible to make the album perfect. However, there is bad news Glamberts - the release date is no longer Maypril - it's now slated for May.

The news came from a Q&A session with fans in Kansas City on Monday. Adam is touring the US doing radio promotion for the album and without fail, in almost every city has been asked if the album release date has been set. Until a couple of days ago, he was still going with the vague response of "Maypril," and not committing to April or May. That is, until Monday, when he told fans that for now, the release is scheduled for May. Specifically he said, "It's somewhere in the May month now." Although this comes as a disappointment for fans hoping to buy the album in April, at least now the release date is a little less ambiguous. Adam obviously thought that was a good thing because in response to groans from disappointed fans, he continued, "Well I said Maypril before, so, now it's in May!"

Adam Lambert - The Advocate - 45 years: Part 3: Our Hall of Fame - Page 9

Any celebration of the The Advocate's founding in 1967 must honor the heroes for LGBT rights that we've covered for 45 years. With one honoree named per year, the list will be announced in parts and culminate in an event in Los Angeles this month.

Television has helped define American culture, and television was dominated by singing contest American Idol in 2009 when Adam Lambert broke the preconceived notion of who this country could embrace.

Lambert, the glam-rocker who finished the show's eight season as first runner-up, was the subject of an Entertainment Weekly cover story questioning whether he was gay even before the show ended. When it finally did, Lambert began learning what it is to identify as a gay man in mainstream pop music.

In his first post-Idol TV performance at the American Music Awards, Lambert stole headlines by kissing his male keyboard player. He's become an advocate for The Trevor Project and Equality California. But his example as a reliable voice for being yourself is perhaps most important.

"I think visibility is a great tool," he told The Advocate in a 2011 cover story. "If I’d had people in the public eye who were really up-front about it, it probably would have helped me."
