And we wouldn't have wanted it any other way: ''Mad World'' was haunting, majestic, and downright beautiful. Proving that he didn't need stage antics to sell a song, Adam's version of the Tears for Fears song (inspired by Gary Jules' cover) managed to be both gentle and commanding at once. Kris Allen might have been crowned the victor, but season 8 will always belong to the runner-up's ''Mad World.''
