ON TOP- Adam Lambert To Gay Teens: Ignore The Hate, Focus On The Love

Rocker Adam Lambert says he wants gay teens to ignore the hate and focus on the love.

Lambert addressed the recent spate of gay teens bullied to death in the U.S. at a press conference before performing in Malaysia, which was protested by members of the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Malaysia's Islamic opposition party because the theatrical performer “promotes gay culture.” Holding signs that read “Not Our Culture” protesters held a reportedly peaceful demonstration outside the venue.

Earlier, the PAS had demanded the cancellation of the concert, but Lambert agreed to edit out a controversial kiss between himself and his male keyboardist, Tommy Joe Ratliff.

The openly gay Lambert talked about the protest and the role celebrities play in advancing gay rights at a press conference held before the concert.

“My message to the youth of the U.S. and to the world is that you should be proud of who you are,” he answered a reporter asking about the recent gay teen suicides. “And I know that it's hard.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)

“I'm still bullied, in a sense, by certain groups, by certain journalists in a way. And the general public. If you go on the Internet, for example, and you go down into the comments section. There's a lot of hate. But you know what? If I focused on the hate and let it affect me, I'd be letting the hate win. I refuse to do that. I'm going to focus on the positive and focus on the love, and ignore all the hate.”

Adam Lambert continues to take his Glam Nation tour around the world, with a concert this weekend in Auckland, New Zealand.

The sold-out show was held at Trusts Stadium.

In honor of Tommy Joe Ratliff's birthday (Adam's bassist,) the band performed a surprise version of Tommy's favorite song, "Enter Sandman" by Metallica.

Adam Lambert for Oz X-Factor

Glam singer Adam Lambert will sing live on this Monday night’s X-Factor decider show, its producers have revealed.

Glambert heads to Australia after his Malaysia show where he promised to behave himself.

His Aussie gigs will then begin in Melbourne on Tuesday 19th October when he takes the stage at The Palais Theatre, before heading north to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Wednesday 20th October, and then finishes up on Friday 22nd October at The Tivoli in Brisbane.

Local rockers Short Stack are also lined up to perform live on the X-Factor’s live show, Monday at 7:30pm on channel 7.

Lambert’s trajectory to stardom began less than two short years ago when he reached runner up in the eighth season of American Idol. Proving that the winner does not necessarily take it all, he has gone on to blaze the trail for left-of-centre performers the world over with his neo-glam irreverence and vocal virtuosity, receiving far more attention than his castmates during the months following the conclusion of the series.

Audiences can expect to see an audio-visual spectacular, both theatrical and atmospheric, when Lambert takes the stage with his playful melodrama conjuring up nods to Sixties psychadelia, Seventies disco and Eighties glam-goth. Adam Lambert Hoping for Acting Career

Adam Lambert is eyeing a career in Hollywood - the outlandish singer wants to eventually make the transition from the stage to the big screen.

Lambert shot to fame on hit TV talent show American Idol and went on to launch a recording career, but his roots are in musical theatre and he hopes he will be given the opportunity to put his acting skills to the test.

He tells the Malay Mail, "I'd definitely be interested in that. I did theatre for about 10 years in Los Angeles and a little bit in Europe.

"Getting back into acting would be very exciting and something that would make sense for me. I don't have any immediate plans but maybe something will come up. I think I'd like to try on-screen because I've never really done much of that, I've done a lot of theatre and I'm not saying I won't do more, but I'd like to do something new."

And Lambert thinks a cameo role in musical TV series Glee would help ease him back into acting.

He adds, "That would be cool... If they wanted to work together, I would enjoy that. It's a great show."
