Best Music 2010: Adam Lambert Picks His Favorite Song And Album Of The Year
We all know what the critics thought of this year’s crop of tunes — but what about the artists who helped shape the sound of 2010? As a special holiday treat to you, we’ve picked a special class of singers, musicians and groups — artists we consider among the most creative emerging stars in pop — to participate in our special year-end feature, exclusively sharing with us their reflections on the albums, songs and performers that made their year really… pop. And in many cases, their answers were surprising.Kicking off our series is the dazzling Adam Lambert, who selected an album and song from the same magnetic singer-songwriter… one who can confidently say that 2010 was one of the biggest years of her career. Though we’re very aware the high-energy Lambert has a softer side — he is Grammy-nominated for his gorgeous performance of the pleading pop rock ballad, “Whataya Want From Me” — we assumed his favorite tune of 2010 would be something to make you strut on the dancefloor. But it was the heartfelt singer-songwriter Sia who nabbed the double honor of creating Adam’s favorite album and song.
Sia has had quite a year — she released her fourth album, We Are Born, to favorable reviews, entertained the masses at Coachella, and was responsible for penning some of the more enjoyable tracks on Christina Aguilera’s Bionic and the Burlesque soundtrack. So it’s no wonder people are taking notice of the Aussie chanteuse more than ever before. (Hopefully that keeps her from following through with the career switch she discussed a few months ago.)
And maybe it’s not so surprising after all that Adam picked this phenomenal performer’s music as his favorite, since both artists possess fun, quirky personalities, have a penchant for dressing creatively, and are blessed with incredible talent. But we’ll let Adam explain in his own words why Sia’s music moved him the most in 2010.
Adam Lambert: I have always been a big fan of Sia’s songwriting and voice and I think this year’s release of We Are Born showcases some of her best work yet.
Her songwriting resonates with me and as a listener; I begin to really believe she is letting me into her music, her words and her thoughts. Her lyrics are so genuine, truthful and exposed and I really respect that in any artist.
Not only are her lyrics exposed for us to feel but so is her voice. It too, is so revealed, raw and cuts right to my heart. One thing that is so special is you can hear every texture of her voice, every breath, which then again, helps support that she really makes me not only believe, but also FEEL what she is singing. This can get lost when recording an album, but she does such a good job letting that come through in her recordings.
More specifically to Sia’s album, is that in the song, “Be Good To Me”. Here in this song, she really lets us in. The riff she sings after the first phrase of the vocal is divine. Her voice really sails into a timber full of sympathetic vibration and rich overtones. These are one of her magical moments that give you goose bumps.
No matter whom “he” is that she refers to in the first line, she leaves up to you to decide. I personally took it from a love relationship perspective and felt what she had to say.
In the lyric, “There is sweetness after hurt….” really shows that anytime anyone goes through a breakup, or a loss, or just plain hurt, it may take time, but you always seem to find the sweetness after all of it is done and the healing has passed. This lyric is one that a lot of people need to take the time to learn about and as it took me awhile to figure that out, it is always good to remind myself of this when I am hurting. It helps me get through any healing process.
Another lyric she states, “My heart is filled, revealed…” shows exactly what I love about her work. She puts her heart out there for all to hear, see and judge. She is saying this not only to “he” but also to her listeners, that she is exposing herself to us in such an intimate way. She is really speaking to anyone who wants to listen.
Sia’s work is by far some of the best. I will always be a fan and really look forward to any future work she shares with the world

It's Adam with the four candidates of The Voice of Holland who got to meet him before the concert in Amsterdam.
In 2009 he was second to American Idol. Not soon after he scored a monster hit and since then he tours around the world. In the Netherlands he has performed in the Amsterdam Paradiso. While early in the afternoon for the many eccentric performance made up girls in front of the pop temple guards, have four talents of The Voice of Holland met with the singer. Between sound checks by Adam Lambert makes time to talk with Kim, Nigel, Lenny and Meike.
Tips and tricks
The quartet has plenty of questions for the runner-up of American talent. How do you deal with the sudden media attention? How do you put yourself on the map? Veteran singer gives a lot of 'tips and tricks. Adam himself but also questions: "How do you combine this with your work?" Adam knows exactly how busy the participants may have.

Kim Farmer let her audition on Youtube and see the four talents singing the song where Adam live so famous: "Whataya for from me." Lenny accompanies the whole thing on guitar. The singer was surprised. "You are really good!" The acoustic version of the talents differs considerably from the original, but Adam seems to like it.

Adam Lambert’s fans create online ‘Thank You’ tribute
Following a Grammy nomination and an incredibly successful Glam Nation tour, Adam Lambert’s fans want to say ‘thank you.’ Fans have set up a website where fans can leave kind words, video messages, and pictures among other things. The website was created with the intention of allowing all those who witnessed the spectacle that was Lambert’s Glam Nation tour to thank Lambert for the spectacular performance.
The Examiner reports that even before the international leg of the tour was announced, fans from all over the world were making videos, pleading with Adam to play a show in their country. This seems like a natural step to further focus Lambert’s rabid fan base.

Interview in Paris: Adam Lambert, a showman first and foremost
Lambert puts the glam-rock and size before a celebrity at the height of his voice. The 28 year old singer has just finished her first world tour, passed by the Trabendo in Paris on November 18. Amidst a few days visiting the capital, he answered our questions. Smiling, passionate, inspired, Adam is a character whole. Maintenance.
Adam, you're back in France after a marathon tour. You holding up?
I try! It was more than 112 dates on this tour! It was great! I did not know at all how I was going out and especially if I end up in one piece (laughs)! But everything went well. I have not had to cancel one show, I have not lost my voice. I finally got to meet my fans around the world. What's funny is that before introducing me to American Idol, I thought coming to settle in Europe and seek careers here because I thought I might be more easily accepted ... But eventually things turned in my favor in the U.S. ...
You have seen differences in your public meeting in Europe?
One thing that struck me is that the fans are younger in general. I also saw more gay ... I enjoyed myself so much in all cases and spent unforgettable moments. At Trabendo was great, we are really took a lot of fun. The room was small and intimate so I could watch almost all the fans in the eye. We did everything on this tour, from large to very small rooms and a challenge to run the show in these extremes. I learned a lot.
When you look at the Adam a year ago and today, you see the same person?
Yes, completely. There is always the same but much more tired! I never had to take a pace of work and life like. Obviously with the theater, musicals, was eight shows a week but I had three-hour show and it was done. Now it's nonstop, 24-24hrs. But I'm not complaining, I know it's worth it. I live my dream. I can finally share my music and my ideas with people. And then a more materialistic side, I can buy a house now! Before I had no money at all ... This is not the most important to me: music, being an artist and express themselves, that is most important. But I also appreciate having a little security.
On your album, you left all your talk about feelings. When it can be a rockstar as a pop star, is it difficult to accept?
That's what's strange ... Everyone keeps asking me to explain my style, to explain the style of the album ... And that is exactly I do not need to define it. That is all at once! And for me it fits perfectly at the time, music should be like that with a little bit of everything. That people will listen to me can find something they like, in a style that suits me and suits them.
Prestigious artists gave you the songs, like Pink, Muse and Lady GaGa. Have you experienced this as a recognition? Ditto for the comparison with Freddie Mercury ...
It meant a lot to me, really. And then it was also shown to those who make this music industry that I could be taken seriously. I look at Freddy is a great compliment! An honor well, as I was influenced by him. It was probably also a bit more pressure ... I really felt people's expectations ...
United States, your private life became fodder for the media ... How do you live this intrusion?
It's part of the job must be done with ... And if there's something that I retained from this whirlwind began, is that I need to keep certain parts of my private life very private, otherwise it remains for me nothing to which I cling. Although in absolute terms I've always been like an open book and that most people already know the principal!
You do not want to be a reference to the openly gay star ...
Yes, but I am finally already become the "Openly gay singer" as they say ... I did not choose, it's done alone. I just wanted to sing, not necessarily represent an entire community. But at the same time, I'm very comfortable with all that, I never feel obligated to apologize or justify myself. I did not do it. And it's great that young people are inspired by my background and it gives them courage, seeing that I do not hang your head and I'm not hiding. So yes I hope it helps, but it's not really my main goal. My goal for me is to entertain people, to be a showman.
You love the provocative and sometimes push the limits of what people are used to seeing ...
Totally! And you know why? Because I think it's hilarious! And each time there are people to take it so seriously, damn ... It's a bit kitsch but it's the pop! We are here to have a good time and be subversive is also part of entertainment. I do not know what happened in this business but I say we lost something in some way and should just relax a bit ... All I do is always with a smile and a wink and mostly the fans understand me then ...
There's Adam Lambert provocative and sexy Fever or For your Entertainment, but there is also the most fragile Soaked, Sleepwalker or face Aftermath ... What is good?
The two (laughs)! It's all me. I think that right now the artists come and go as fast because every time you listen to their debut album, you can almost hear the same thing ... I do not want to end up like that, I do not want to be the story of a single tube. And this is one of the things I'm proud with my album, it shows that many aspects of my personality: hyper sensitive side, the sexual side, the side a little clown and also the rebel ... I am a human being, I feel a lot of things so far to get them out.
You keep a very intense contact with your fans, especially on Twitter. Do you need their feedback, this link?
I get quite a return on what I do is true and I like that. But mostly I try to read what they have to tell me in general. I think Twitter has become a way to communicate directly with my fans. It is a way to tell them "Ok here it comes from me and not a press release." It's more authentic. There was a time when I was still a little disturbed by that, it's true ... But I think I found the way to go about it and also when I have the right slip away. Sometimes it's hard, you're finally a rest day, you walk in the streets and suddenly someone recognizes you. In general, I love it because it makes me happy that they tell me they love what I do. Now it can also turn taking pictures, signing tons of stuff and then you realize that in fact some just want to change their Facebook profile picture above my head (laughs). It has nothing to do with my music. For me it's still super weird. But that does not put me angry at all and 9 out of 10 people I meet are fantastic.
I have an anecdote for you. Do you know that some in Europe have long known you for a reason that has nothing to do with music? During American Idol, we asked you who was your inspiration for your haircut at the time ...
Oh my god (he explodes with laughter)! Bill Kaulitz! Of course I remember!
You doubted you reactions it would generate?
It's funny, frankly. The guy has a great style, it is very pretty. That's all, and some Tokio Hotel fans were so angry against me. Unbelievable. And then it turned into a war between my fans and theirs, with "Adam copy Bill! No, it was Bill that copies Adam!". But no copy! It just tastes like: we love both black, a little rock style, fashion ... There are tons of people who dress like us, only they are not all famous musicians and ... And then prefers girls right? Honestly, I am among those who think that we must respect the way people identify themselves. If he says he likes girls, so it's like this. I just find that someone seems to be super interesting is all ... After this story has taken incredible proportions. It is still not the only two types to put mascara ... And somewhere, is to forget our past, because in the 70s and 80s there were many followers of glam rock, androgyny ... Now the men take more risks ... Bill and me, what was the most in common is the eyeliner ... Our voices are completely different, our music is completely different and we do not like.
You're already preparing your second album and you'll also go out in the coming days a few mini CD audio tracks ...
Yes, I have some ideas for the next album, but I have not really started working. I first want to take a break and recharge the batteries. But I love that people feel are in demand of my next projects is very motivating. I still think at times we need to know to pull back a little light. Your back becomes even stronger in every way. But I will not go too long, do not worry! I just really want to spend more time on this album than the first we had to make just three months. Finally, we did very well out but this time I need to sit down a little. And then for the next album, the release date will be the same for all countries, this time! So get ready to see me return to Europe soon!
